Giuseppe Mazziotti
Born in Cosenza in 1976, Giuseppe Mazziotti graduated in 1997 in clarinet performance with the highest marks at the Perugia Academy of Music under the supervision of Ciro Scarponi. From an early age, he has attended Masterclasses held by Scarponi and other internationally-renowned clarinettists, such as Karl Leister (Berliner Philharmoniker), Anthony Pay and Gabriele Mirabassi. In the Summer of 2000, he received the prestigious Diploma di merito by the Accademia Musicale Chigiana di Siena, after having successfully participated to the Summer Academy and to the final concerts organised by the same institution.
He began his solo career in June 1996 at the Oriental Languages Institute of Naples, giving with Ciro Scarponi the first world performance of Lemma and Ipotesi (for 2 clarinets and 2 pianos), conducted by the composer Ennio Morricone and dedicated to the film-maker Giuseppe Tornatore.
Principal clarinettist of the Perugia Symphony Orchestra from 1996 to 2004, he performed the majority of the symphonic repertoire – from Mozart to Shostakovich, going through the Beethoven, Brahms an Cajkovski’s Symphonies.
In March 1997, with the same orchestra, he performed the Concerto in C Minor for clarinet and orchestra by Ludwig Spohr, to great acclaim. In 1998 he won Third Prize (First and Second not awarded) in the International Competition “Il Clarinetto del ‘900”, organized by the Accademia Musicale Umbra; and in 2000 he was admitted to the Italian Youth Orchestra, at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. In addition, he collaborated with other orchestras such as the Italian Symphony Orchestra and I Solisti di Perugia.
After having attended the two-year course (1994–1996) of History of music held by Prof. Guido Zaccagnini at the Perugia Music Academy, he has begun to establish himself as a music critic, publishing an essay on Gustav Mahler (Aspetti della poetica mahleriana, 1999); as well as working for RAI Radio 3 (1998–2004) - as a critic and speaker for programs such as Mattino Tre and RadioTre Suite - and for Amici della Musica of Perugia, as author of texts and essays on symphonic and chamber music.
He has played for a number of years with the pianist Filippo Farinelli, with whom he completed (October 2003) the Advanced Course in Chamber Music held at the Perugia Academy by Professors F. Pepicelli, C. Mastroprimiano and A. Acquarelli.
Giuseppe is the creator and Editor-in-Chief of Musikethos.org. In 2006 he was appointed to the Board of Directors of Tempo Reale.
