Silvia Careddu

Silvia Careddu, winner of the Premier Grand Prix at the 56th Geneva International Music Competition in 2001, was born in Cagliari (Italy) in 1977.

After obtaining the diploma with the highest marks at Cagliari’s Conservatory, she continued her studies with Riccardo Ghiani, attending at the same time the three-years specialization course with Raymond Guiot at the Accademia Italiana del Flauto, in Rome. In 1997, she entered in the Conservatoire Regional Superieur de Paris, in Sophie Cherrier’s class, where she was awarded with unanimity the Premier Prix.

In 2002, she obtained the “Diplome de Formation Musicale a l’unanimité, avec les felicitations du jury of the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris”, in Pierre-Yves Artaud and Florence Souchard’s flute class and Maurice Bourgue and Itamar Golan for chamber music.

Alongside her studies, Silvia has participated to Aurele Nicolet’s masterclasses at the Accademia Chigiana di Siena, where she obtained each year the Honor Diploma, and followed classes with internationally renowed musicians like Emmanuel Pahud, Michel Debost, Jacques Zoon.

She has won prizes in national and international music competitions, among which: Syrinx International Flute Competition (Italy, first prize with unanimity), Prix du Public at Geneva’s 56th International Music Competition (Switzerland), Prix de l’Académie de Villecroze (France), Jeunes Talents de la Flute (Moragis, France), Premio Sassari (Italy, second prize), Cagliari Lion’s Club (Italy, first prize), Fnapec-Chamber Music Competition (Paris, Prix Special).

Silvia Careddu has collaborated as principal flute with: Roma Opera House, Sinfonieorchester Koln-WDR, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Bamberger Symphoniker, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestra do Estado de Sao Paulo, Orchestra Sinfonica A. Toscanini, Cagliari Opera House.

Since 2004, she is principal flutist at the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and a member of the Ensemble Horenstein.

She participates at European, Korean and Japanese music festivals and she has held masterclasses in the Académie Musicale de Colmar Vladimir Spivakov (France) and in Odaesa Summer and Winter Music Academy for the Seoul Music University (S. Korea).
