Musikethos.org makes use of the Creative Commons Attribution – Non Commercial-No Derivs 2.0 Italy License. This license allows the single user to copy and distribute the freely acquired material for non-commercial ends.
Within the conditions described by the license –respecting the integrity and paternity of the piece and of the recording- the user is authorized to share and distribute the material over the internet (email, peer-to-peer, instant-messaging).
After having downloaded to your hard-disk from Musikethos.org a certain recording, you will be able to verify the kind of information you are not allowed to alter when sharing with other users. This information can be easily viewed on the tag that will appear if you right-click on a file, under Properties.
You will be able to verify (and allow other users to verify) who are the authors, performers and sometimes even producers and sound technicians of the recording you have obtained, as well as a link to a webpage where you will be able to read the specifics of the license used. According to the license, a prerogative of the moral and patrimonial copyright of each author and performer, the material cannot be modified or altered without proper authorization.
Finally, it is useful to clarify that the prohibition on the commercial use of the recordings extends to both direct and indirect commercial uses.
- An example of direct commercial use is the selling of material published by Musikethos.org in any format (CD, DVD, single downloads, etc.)
- An example of indirect commercial use is the use of recordings in films, advertisement, or its use for general entertainment (in TV programs, radio programs, or public venues).
Authorization by the authors (either direct authorization or through societies such as SIAE) and/or of the performing artists is required for the uses above.
