A New Website Offers Classical Music for Free

MUSIKETHOS.org is a new internet website dedicated to classical and jazz music that was recently presented by the Teatro del Sale to its audience in a series of promotional concerts. An idea of Giuseppe Mazziotti -a clarinetist studying towards a PhD at the European University- and of Davide Berretta -aspiring journalist and novelist- the project intends to promote through the web the creations and performances of professional musicians, offering users -free of charge- an archive of performances not available on the market. The progressive archive, includes pieces for which the participating artists can dispose freely of, either because they are no longer protected by copyright, or because the distribution is authorized by the composers themselves. Anyone can access the site and download what they want, as long as its not put to use for profit. The fundamental idea is that the autonomous production and the free distribution can give new life to the musical market. In the two weeks since its inception, Musikethos.org -based between Florence and Perugia- has already among its ranks many Tuscan names: Lorenza Borrani, Matteo Fossi and Edoardo Rosadini, Fiesole pupils of Farulli, and Daniele Giorgi, violinist-conductor of Ort fame, that will soon upload all of the concerts of his Pistoia Orchestra Promusica. Others might step up soon. (Gregorio Moppi)
